Families who enjoy a day of discovery will find hours of fun at Martin Mere. Fill your lungs with fresh air, stretch your legs and see what you can discover as you explore our safe haven of wide open spaces bursting with wetland nature.
Winter is a fantastic time of year to visit the centre. Get your coats on and get outdoors in the fresh air to witness the spectacle of winter wetland wildlife. In a feast for your senses, hear the familiar sound of up to 2000 Whooper swans calling on the mere as they await their daily feed at 3pm from the Discovery hide. This feed also includes a talk by the warden to learn all about the swans and the birds that spend the winter with us.
In the exhibition hall from early November, we erect our swan pipe and you can pretend to be a swan, going through the swan pipe and getting your own swan measurements, before making your own ring to put on your wrist, similar to how swans wear a ring on their feet to help us identify them individually.
At 11.30am and 2.30pm every day, we feed our Asian short clawed otter sisters, Belle and Penny. The feed includes a talk and you can get up close to the otters to get some amazing photos.
The craft room is open every weekends and each day of the school holidays from 12 noon to 3pm, offering selection of paid for crafts from £1.50 to £3.50.
Enjoy a hot drink and a tasty snack before heading to our stepping stones or outdoor play area; from zip wire screams and scramble net laughs and treehouse trailblazing, our huge adventure playground is a total rush for ages 3 to 12.
